Leveraging BIM in Healthcare with Toby Kelly, BIM Manager, Indiana University Health
How do you get started in writing a building information modeling (BIM) plan for a healthcare system? How can BIM help improve patient care?
Alex Jonovski, managing principal of Levcon Analytics, and guest Toby Kelly, BIM manager at Indiana University (IU) Health, discuss the organization’s journey to become a national leader in BIM.
Kelly developed IU Health’s BIM guidelines and Construction Operations Building Information Exchange (COBie) standards from inception through current state. These standards transformed how IU Health receives models and project information from designers and contractors by requiring the data needed to maintain its facilities. In addition, Kelly worked with internal partners to consistently automate the transfer of information into their systems.
As a result, IU Health is able to make better informed decisions from the models, and put dollars saved from construction costs towards patient care.
